The “shootout” guitar was nicknamed to denote which Harmony Hollywood I was utilizing (I have three of this model). In this case, it was an orphaned instrument — according to the Calif guitar shoppe owner — formerly picked by someone involved in a shootout near Hollywood. On this occasion, I recorded it through a wonderfully scarred Harmony 420 amp I stumbled upon while passing through the middle of nowhere-as-usual. Not long after, I traded the “shootout” for weed. The amp is on consignment. Thus, the circle continues on a peaceful path to oblivion.
The rhythm pulse is a Yamaha Portasound PSS-470 set to the “ROCK’N’ ROLL” option. Not sure when or how I found this gem, but I’m positive it was a deal or else I wouldn’t have it. Still do. It’s filtered through an Electro-Harmonix Pog2 pedal.
The Moog MiniFooger Drive pedal thickens the Fender Rhodes Piano Bass. I was given the MF pedal on a guided tour of the Moog HQ in Asheville years ago with a friend. The guide bought a Crumar synth from my friend’s car trunk in the parking lot afterwards. Everyone walked away happy that day.
This song has been around since about 2012, remixed last in September 2017. The repeated chorus section is an image used in a different word-stack called Still from Cuttings from the Tangle published in 2020 by Black Sparrow Press. . . . from the wings of an open cage when the wear began to show on the orders it had been, as far as they were told, stolen/saved, the unselected hid their shape from traditions that they’d known by the vision left ahead as if they knew where it might go, broken/made when a promise took the blame it captured then disowned: the masses seemed so well-framed in lost control, stolen/saved, broken/made . . .
