Early stabs at Straight were around for a few years before 2002 when I cleared out a storage locker in Bismarck ND & drove the contents to another one in Austin TX. I rented a small bedroom on the eastside, but wasn't there much, touring almost 50,000 miles that year with the Yamaha MD8 riding along. The 12-string version of Straight that appears on the 2004 album Dents and Shells was recorded on the MD8 at a HoJo in Tucson AZ. An acoustic piano overdub was done in town at Wavelab Studio. This earlier nylon guitar demo was made somewhere along the way between — between everything: interim locations, makeshift bonds & other manic bouts of abandon.
