1997: The landline years . . . The way I approved album artwork then, while on the road, was to have a package of 11 X 17s overnighted to whatever motel I was at & then I’d call them using a record company calling card. They gave me a pager, too, but it was never turned on & stayed buried in a truck glove compartment until it was obsolete. After the label dropped me, I kept the calling card & used it to stay in touch with my friends in the art department.
